2009 NYC Holiday Windows: Bergdorf Goodman

Going to Bergdorf Goodman’s to see the window displays is one of my favorite things to do during the holiday season in NYC. Bergdorf’s by far has the most exquisite and riveting windows ever.  No joke.  They are masterfully designed and executed and you can’t help but stand there in the cold and think “how the hell did they do that?”

A couple of years ago, one window inspired my first full length play I wrote called “As Real As It May Seem…” One of the characters fell in love with a mannequin in a window who was in a boat rowing through shards of mirrors.  I think the windows are incredibly inspiring for artists, designers, or anyone who appreciates fine craftsmanship and detail.  Yes, they depict a life that’s incredible opulent but this is fantasy and who doesn’t look their best in a fantasy?

Each year the windows are immensely creative and inspired by a theme.  This year’s theme is “The Compendium of Curiosities.”  I have only stepped into the store once with a friend of mine who is a stylist but I make a plan to check out the windows every year and try to bring someone who hasn’t seen them before to enjoy it with me.  This year its you! (and I’m bringing my Mom on Christmas Eve).  Enjoy!

This was my absolute favorite.  The picture doesn’t do it justice.  Go see for yourself!
